–Stephanie Knox, Stewardship Director
Cannon’s Point Preserve has served as an outdoor laboratory and a platform for education since its purchase in 2012. The St. Simons Land Trust coordinates a variety of educational opportunities at the Preserve from annual hikes with the Brunswick High School AP Environmental Science class to partnering with the College of Coastal Georgia on a variety of Service-Learning Projects to leading field trips for local elementary school children and hikes with environmental groups.
Below you will find Lesson Plans created by education majors and faculty advisors at the College of Coastal Georgia. These plans follow the Georgia Department of Education’s Standards of Excellence and are designed for specific use at Cannon’s Point Preserve. Teachers are encouraged to use these lesson plans in ways that best fit the needs of their students and curriculum goals, either using the full plan or pulling out pieces of greatest interest. Teachers are also welcomed to use their own lesson plans that take advantage of on-site learning at the Preserve and provide experiential learning about the biodiversity and rich natural environment of Georgia’s barrier islands.
Cannon’s Point Preserve offers the following amenities and educational tools to support your school’s field trip.
If you would like to schedule a school field trip or group tour at the Preserve, please email Stewardship Director Stephanie Knox at sknox@sslt.org along with any additional questions that you may have.
We look forward to seeing you soon at Cannon’s Point Preserve!
Thank you to the College of Coastal Georgia students and professors for creating these invaluable lesson plans.
