On March 28, 2026, the St. Simons Land Trust welcomed more than 60 community members for its Walk the Frederica Greenway event, hosted in partnership with Bike Walk Golden Isles (BWGI).
Thanks to the generosity of attendees, the event raised more than $700, with proceeds to be shared between BWGI and the Land Trust to support our shared missions of conservation, connectivity, and community wellness.
The morning began at the Land Trust office with a private showing of our Seeding for the Future short film. Guests enjoyed coffee generously provided by event sponsor Jittery Joe’s at Righton Books, along with Chick-n-Minis from Chick-fil-A Saint Simons, helping set a warm and welcoming tone for the day.
Following the film, attendees set out on a 1.5-mile guided walk to the John Gilbert Nature Trail and back, making several meaningful stops along the way. At the Land Trust office, participants learned about our headquarters and the adjacent Mildred Huie property. From there, the group visited the Stollaway property before continuing on to the newly acquired Old Ironsides property, where recent landscaping efforts were on display.
The walk concluded at the John Gilbert Nature Trail, where participants saw firsthand the beautifully enhanced front area and learned more about the Land Trust’s ongoing initiative to transition Frederica Greenway properties to native landscaping. This work includes removing sod and replacing it with native plants—an important step toward supporting local wildlife and creating more resilient, sustainable habitats.
The event was a wonderful opportunity to connect with the community, share our conservation efforts, and highlight the growing impact of the Frederica Greenway. Attendees left with a deeper understanding of the Land Trust’s work—and plenty of enthusiasm for what’s ahead.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who joined us, as well as to our partners at Bike Walk Golden Isles and our generous sponsors. Your support makes all the difference.
