Land Trust Hosts 25th Anniversary Benefactor Appreciation Reception

On Thursday, November 6, the St. Simons Land Trust’s board and staff hosted its 25th Anniversary Benefactor Appreciation Reception at the home of Burch and Jim Barger, Jr. This event was hosted to thank and celebrate some of the most generous and loyal Land Trust supporters who have helped the organization get to this landmark year.

It was a happy accident that the rookery on the eastern side of the lake was filled with hundreds of birds, their white plumage decorating the trees at waters’ edge like holiday lights. It was great luck that the weather was perfect and that the sun setting over the marsh and river from the Barger’s deck created as stunning a view as anything you’re likely to see on St. Simons.

It is neither accident nor luck, however, that the Land Trust has been able to protect and preserve 1,400 acres across this island. The Land Trust founders had an extraordinary vision when they opened the doors in 2000, and it has been these members and so many others who have helped turn their vision into a reality. Conserving and maintaining the 39 properties in our Trust has been made possible because of membership support, and sustaining the mission of preserving and protecting the finest qualities of St. Simons for now and for future generations could not have happened without it.

We sincerely appreciate our members’ generosity and partnership in this important work. Thank you!
