Protected Properties
The St. Simons Land Trust makes land acquisition decisions in a thoughtful, purposeful, and strategic way. With the input of a highly qualified stewardship committee (comprised of staff, board, and experts in the fields of conservation, environmental issues, real estate, and land management), each piece of property is carefully evaluated using an acquisitions matrix. Criteria by which a parcel is ranked include risk of development, environmental value, habitat, historic and cultural significance, size of property, location, proximity to other Land Trust properties, purchase price, costs of perpetual management, impact on the community, and other measurements.
PLEASE NOTE: For the safety of visitors, our neighbors, our staff, and the entire island, we ask that there is no alcohol, drugs, or smoking on Land Trust properties. Thank you!
