The Land Steward Technician serves an integral role on the St. Simons Land Trust’s team, working with all staff, stewardship committee members, volunteers, partners, vendors, and contractors to advance the mission of the organization, to maintain its high profile and reputation for excellence, to use the Preserves and properties as a platform for education, and to help build, promote, and sustain a community conservation culture. The St. Simons Land Trust protects over 1,400 acres in fee simple acquisitions and conservation easements on St. Simons Island and the immediate viewshed. These properties require dedicated SSLT staff to handle persistent monitoring, maintenance and ongoing stewardship to ensure safety for staff, volunteers, and visitors. This is a full-time, salaried position. The Land Steward Technician reports directly to the Stewardship Director.
PROPERTY MANAGEMENT – Responsibilities include coordination with the Stewardship department regarding protection, management, and long-term needs of the 1400+ acres owned by St. Simons Land Trust; duties include but are not limited to:
Property Maintenance
Invasive Vegetation Removal
Education
A bachelor’s degree in biology, zoology, ecology, forestry, or related field. Previous field experience and the ability and willingness to learn is a must. Candidates must be knowledgeable and passionate about applied conservation management and monitoring. The candidate must be in excellent physical condition and able to tolerate biting insects and the hot/humid climate in the southeastern United States. S/He must be a self-starter and be able to work both independently and as a team. Candidates should be enthusiastic, positive, and be able to communicate effectively. Strong organizational skills are a must.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge about southeastern flora and fauna. Comfortable engaging with the public.
