Nearly 40 volunteers with Living Lands and Waters recently rolled up their sleeves at John Gilbert Nature Trail to help complete an exciting enhancement to the property’s entry area.
Together, the group planted the remaining 325 native plants needed to fill the space, the majority of which were sourced from local plant suppliers Florabundance Gardens, All the Buzz, and Southeast Nursery. These plants will create a more welcoming entrance while supporting the health, beauty, and natural character of this special place.
The planting is part of ongoing stewardship efforts along the Frederica Greenway, establishing a landscape that is better suited to the property and its surrounding environment.
We are incredibly grateful to:
- Living Lands and Waters Founder and President Chad Pregracke and Vice President Dan Breidenstein for bringing the dedicated group of volunteers from Envita’s Annual Sustainability Summit together and helping make the project possible;
- Cliff Gawron and Jekyll Island Authority for donating 60 blue-eyed grass plants for the project;
- Land Trust Board of Directors and Ambassadors for donating countless shovels and hand trowels for volunteers to use; and
- the St. Simons Land Trust Stewardship Team, whose planning and preparation helped ensure everything was ready for planting day.
Projects like this are a wonderful example of what can happen when organizations, volunteers, and conservation partners come together to care for the places we all love.
Thank you again to Living Lands and Waters and all volunteers who have helped make a lasting impact at John Gilbert Nature Trail!
