Trailside Discoveries
A FAMILY ADVENTURE ACROSS PROTECTED PLACES
This summer, St. Simons Land Trust Ambassadors invite families to explore protected places in a brand-new way with Trailside Discoveries! This initiative was created to encourage outdoor exploration, family adventure, and deeper connections to the beautiful, protected spaces that make St. Simons Island so special.
From June 6 – July 6, special wooden discovery discs will be hidden across select Land Trust properties. Participants who find a discovery disc may bring it to the SSLT office during business hours to redeem a prize. Prizes include Land Trust merchandise, local artwork, gift cards to Pennies for Preservation partner locations, and more.
Participating Properties
Trailside Discovery Discs will ONLY be hidden at the five Land Trust properties below.
- Gateway Property
- St. Simons Land Trust Office Grounds
- John Gilbert Nature Trail
- Old Stables Corner
- Correll Trail at Oatland
Trailside Discovery Discs will NOT be hidden:
- Under any pile of leaves, natural debris including logs and palms, or manmade structures including boardwalks.
- In a spot that requires climbing. It is against Land Trust property regulations to climb any trees or structures on Land Trust properties.
Please remember our stewardship philosophy: Take only pictures. Leave only footprints.
Guidelines
- Please remain on marked trails at all times.
- Do not disturb plants, wildlife, or habitats while searching.
- Discovery discs are intentionally placed in publicly accessible areas.
- Only one prize redemption per person/family during the initiative.
- SSLT reserves the right to substitute prizes based on availability.
- Discovery discs must be physically presented to redeem a prize.
- Children must be supervised by an adult.
- Participation is at your own risk.

- Who hides the Discovery Discs?
- Each disc will be hidden by St. Simons Land Trust Ambassadors and Staff.
- Where do I redeem my prize once I find a Discovery Disc?
- All discs should be returned to the St. Simons Land Trust office (1810 Frederica Road) to redeem your prize. During the summer, the office is open Monday – Thursday from 9:00 am -5:00 pm.
- How many Disovery Discs will be hidden at each property?
- To begin, only one (1) disc will be hidden at each property at a time. When a disc is returned to the office, a new disc will be hidden on that property. As the weeks go on, we anticipate hiding multiple discs on each property.
- How many Discovery Discs can I turn in for a prize?
- Only one (1) disc/household may be turned in for a prize.
- Can I keep the Discovery Disc?
- Discovery discs have been handmade by dedicated Land Trust Ambassadors. We ask that all discs be turned into the office so additional discs don’t have to be made.
- Is it possible to find a Discovery Disc after July 6, 2026?
- No. All discs will be removed from the participating properties on July 7, 2026.
- When is the last day to redeem a Discovery Disc for a prize?
- Monday, July 6, by 5:00pm.
